Secretary of State Anthony Blinkin said in the hearing today that the Biden Administration had a deadline, but wasn’t given a plan from the previous administration. That statement was false on the first part and correct on the second part. Due to the knowledge that President Trump was not going to be in office starting in January 2021, the Taliban decided that they could obtain much greater concessions from the new Biden Administration, so the original deadline of May 1, 2021, was not feasible.
Keep in mind that if you ever hear anyone ever say that President Donald Trump had made a deadline to leave, it would have had to have been contingent upon the Taliban and the existing Afghan government to meet certain thresholds, which had been originally agreed upon by both parties. In other words, Trump was NOT going to pull out UNLESS all the thresholds were reached, and was willing to extend the deadline, though it would have been unlikely had Trump remained in office. During talks on any subject when parties put forth ideas then walk away that is exactly what happened. The Trump administration along with the Taliban just did one thing talked.
Instead, the Biden administration had changed the United States position on pulling out of Afghanistan, first extending the deadline until September 11. This gave the Taliban and even the Afghan government officials the ability to completely renege on their part of the deal, of which the debacle actually gave complete and utter control to the Taliban. The pullout from Afghanistan was completely and solely a disaster from start to finish. I am a Democrat yet I would never have done such a botched job in the first place. Secretary of state Anthony Blinkin is a disgrace along with so many other people. It looks like their are a few heads on the chopping block who are making our President Joseph Biden look like one of the worse presidents ever and he has been in office less than a year. At this rate it seems not very many Americans are standing behind our President.
