Due to the many mistakes and outright arrogance of Democrats, the Republican party now leads the Democratic party by 14 points. Unheard of this century, we have to go all the way back to 1995 to see the last time the GOP had such a dominant polling stance. The Democrats are hemorrhaging their support in both the presidency and Congress, and has lost a fairly reliable blue state, Virginia, at all three top positions as well as one of its legislative chambers.
Most people put the start of this shockingly large trend at the point of the Afghanistan debacle. When President Biden pulled out of Afghanistan, and it was shown on television where an Afghanistan sports star fell off the wheel-well of a huge transport jet shortly after taking off, falling down to his death the crowd watched. Many more were found dead in wheel wells upon the plane landing. This is actually worse than the dozens who jumped out of the World Trade Center towers during 9/11, as at least that was the result of an enemy attack, and not the result of a poorly-staged withdrawal. I have never seen anything like it and hopefully never have to see it again.
Since then, the trajectory has expanded to the point where more people now see themselves as Republicans than as Democrats; or more specifically, they see themselves distancing themselves from the shockingly authoritative presidency and even Congress. This swing is massive and with the disapproval against Democrats at all levels, from federal all the way down to local dogcatcher, the president has instigated a political crisis that the Democratic Party is desperate to salvage. In my lifetime I’ve never seen a president act so dismally, and worse, taking down the country with him. We as Democrats must respect the Constitution in our battles to keep this country for our citizens and their families.
